General Information for Percussion UnitsWelcome to the percussion units page. Our branch of the MCCGA circuit
consists of indoor percussion units from many of the same states as the
color guards. The percussion circuit hosts both marching and concert units.
The marching units combine the excitement of the visual element consistent
in color guards with a soundtrack provided by the performers themselves. The
concert classes, though stationary, provide an in-depth musical journey for
the audience to enjoy. The percussion classes for MCCGA are divided as follows:
Though we have fewer classes and a smaller number of units within them, percussion is a growing part of MCCGA's community. We hope to see even more units participate this year. MCCGA’s percussion units are administered by the MCCGA Board of Directors, the MCCGA Percussion Advisory Board, and the MCCGA Director of Percussion Education. The By-Laws and Color Guard Rulebook set forward the structure of our administration, events, rules and classifications. These are invaluable resources and can tell you much about how to prepare for the season. It is also beneficial to take a look at WGI’s Resources page for articles on show design and judging philosophies. If you are interested in starting a unit in percussion, but have some questions on how to get started, feel free to e-mail Brandon Johnson (percussion coordinator for MCCGA) or any one of the Advisory Board members listed below. 2012 Color Guard Advisory Board
