Promotion ScoresMCCGA divides guards into 10 classes, as described in our Bylaws.
Due to this structure, scores cannot be compared between the classifications. Promotion scores are determined by reviewing scores from the previous season and adjusting based on WGI’s judging sheets. If a unit achieves the scores set for their class by the indicated date, they are promoted to the next higher class, pending review by the Color Guard Steering Committee. If the total of a unit’s choreography, composition, and repertoire scores exceed the score indicated for any given weekend at an MCCGA festival, that unit is promoted for the remainder of that season (pending review). This score must be achieved in a finals contest (if a prelims/finals format is used) unless a unit does not perform in finals. In this case, the prelims number is used for promotion purposes. Also note that in order to be promoted, 3 of the 5 judges must award a promotion score in their caption. Please remember that under the current system, we are adding the two choreography scores (equipment & movement), the EA composition score, and the two GE repertoire scores. This system does not use the excellence or performance scores at all. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Chris Putnam, Director of Education via email at educationdirector@mccga.org .
